As parents, we know our kids are always changing. From newborn to twelfth grade, there is always something new in their development, or some new challenge they are facing, or some new obstacle they are overcoming. So how do we make the most of each developmental phase in a kid’s life? How do we parent in a way that helps our kids feel known and supported? How can we anticipate some of the challenges they will face? These monthly meet ups will help you make the most of the phase your child or teen is in right now. It’s never too late, even if you’re parenting a twelfth grader.
We are continuing the program we started in the fall during the winter/spring months adding a special focus on mental health for our families and kids.
We gather for optional dinner and fellowship at 6pm and start our program at 6:45 so we are done by 8pm.

Everyone leaves death row. Few leave it alive. Our guest speaker at 11 AM following worship on Sunday, May 7, will be Don Clark, a lawyer who represented a death row inmate.
During the summer of 1984 twenty-year-old Tommy Hamilton, the product of a deprived childhood in rural Alabama, shoots and kills his boss. Convicted of murder, Tommy is sentenced to death. Before facing the electric chair, one final appeal offers the chance to save Tommy’s life, if only his Chicago based lawyer and a nun from Alabama can prove he is not legally guilty…even though he is not factually innocent.
During his time with us at Southminster, Tommy’s lead attorney will reveal to us how this fascinating true crime story and life-and-death case unfolded in real time. He will share some of the important insights into our legal system and death penalty jurisprudence that are fully set forth in his book about the case, Summary Judgment.

Coming soon to Southminster: an Environmental Team!
Do you and your kids/grandkids like to support endangered birds and bees? Do they talk about clean air and water in school and other environmental issues? Now we all have a chance to act on our interests in protecting God’s creation! Bring your children/ grandchildren ages 8 and up to hear Dan Huntsha, from Faith in Place, an Interfaith Environmental Group speak about forming a group at Southminster on Sunday, June 4 from 11:00-12:30pm in the Chapel! Listen to Dan as he shares resources about many environmental areas. If you would like to be on the ground floor of this family-friendly environmental group, fill out a paper survey to list your areas of interest. Dan will serve as our group’s guide. He will coach us as we form a plan of action. If you would like to be a part of a group that supports protecting and taking care of our Earth, join us!
Added bonus! If you have little ones, childcare will be provided until 12:30 pm.
