History of Southminster

Southminster’s Beginnings

The congregation of Southminster formed in 1961 from a need for Arlington Heights to have a church in the south of the village. The founding pastor, Rev. Dr. William T. Jones, served as pastor from 1962 – 1973 and our Fellowship Hall is named after him. Rev. Robert W. Gish followed Pastor Jones until 1981 when Rev. Dr. Stephen C. Pierce became our third and most recently installed pastor, until his retirement in 2016. Rev. Steve Pierce’s tenure spans an incredible 35 years. Having retired in 2016, Steve has kept busy lovingly writing a narrative devotional history and tutorial of Southminster. We hope you will join us on May 13 when Steve returns to Southminster to present his book. For details on when and how you can purchase a piece of Southminster’s history, please read the article below.
